When a diesel truck is tuned for enhanced power, the transmission requires time to adapt to the new torque values. This process typically takes 2-4 days, depending on driving frequency.

Important reminders:

During transmission retraining, adhere strictly to posted speed limits.

Avoid driving in adverse weather conditions, including snow, ice, rain, wind, or any situations that could impact vehicle traction or visibility.

68RFE specific:

For vehicles equipped with the 68RFE automatic transmission (2010+ RAM), it’s crucial to conduct a re-learn procedure every time the ECM is flashed, even without loading transmission tuning. To perform this procedure after ECM flashing, drive the truck using no more than 30% throttle for at least 25-30 miles. Ensure the transmission shifts up and down frequently during this period.

Note:

  • The 25-30 miles are essential to re-establish the CVI values. Typically, these transmissions may take 400-500 miles or more to settle down.
  • Avoid sustained highway speeds during the initial 25-30 miles.
  • If you’ve purchased a TCM tune for your 2007.5-2009 68RFE equipped RAM, the same relearn process is necessary upon TCM installation.

Ford 6R140 Specific:

The Ford 6R140 automatic transmission features an “Adaptive Memory” system, which continuously learns and adjusts to various factors such as horsepower levels, temperatures, and driving habits. This Adaptive Memory is reset automatically upon completing the Mini Maxx Tune download. We recommend conducting a Transmission Relearn procedure after installing the Mini Maxx to aid in adapting to the added horsepower. While the 6R140 transmission will eventually learn on its own over time, the relearn procedure provides a solid baseline for Adaptive Learning and expedites the learning process.

To perform the relearn procedure, follow these steps:

  1. After installing Mini Maxx tuning, perform the following 0-80 MPH runs while on the HOT Power Level:
    • 0-80 MPH @ 25% throttle position, then slow down and come to a complete stop.
    • 0-80 MPH @ 50% throttle position, then slow down and come to a complete stop.
    • 0-80 MPH @ 100% throttle position, then slow down and come to a complete stop.

The Transmission Relearn procedure is now complete.

Note: During this relearn process, you may encounter hesitation during shifts, hard shifts, or defuel patterns, which are all normal occurrences.
